Tomorrow I stsart my once a week class in Middle English, and I am so inordinately enthusiastic. I want to translate! I want to learn and fill my head with useless information! I want a career doing living history and learning outdated crafts!

So I started making a doll for the Ren and Baroque seminar, because iy will be much cheaper to clothe her than myself. I have a Sculpey head and shoulderplate, and the lower arms in the right position for praying. The head is quite pretty, and she actually looks more human than fey this time. Only part fey. :) Now she needs a body. Or I can still do the tapestry and have a small test subject for my dresses.

So for all you costume geeks, what sort of long research questions could be done with the very small amount of surviving Burgundian clothing and the large body of art from the time? I"m thinking something along the lines of accuracy in portraiture. They all seem to be pretty much similar, though. Suggest to me some books as well. New Paltz does not have a particularly good selection. I have almost all their costume books from that era, and none of them are as good as I need for these purposes. I could do the Mary Hapsburg dress, as that is still very much present, but I need more examples. Know of any? Any pictures of surviving fabric, even if modified into a later style garment?

And I got yesterday in the mail a lovely little package from Gabe, containing two very shiny packages. Miles Davis and Tom Waits. I love them both, and had a very nice time falling assleep to Miles last night. Thank you! Always trust Gabe's musical tastes. I've never actually owned any Miles Davis before, and this is my third Tom Waits. I must have more. And more.

Nah, you shouldn't always trust my musical tastes, some of it is highly suspect. But there's a little something for everyone in my collection.
Your welcome. Glad you like.

Probably true, but pretty much everything I've heard in your collection has been good. At least, from before you went away.... Anyway, can't think of anything I didn't like.
