So I think today is another day for just pretending I don't see the news. I already know Saddam has been captured, but I don't really want to see what other people are aying about what it will mean. They don't know yet. I don't know yet, and I have a few ideas, each less pleasant than the one before it. Yes, I am chronically paranoid about the government. Pretty much, I'm more certain that I want to go to another country for my grad work. At this point that seems like the safest thing I could do as a result of this, given the multiple possible endings to this sordid tale. I didn't like the man, it's good that he is not in power, he was a monster, and I hate calling people monsters because I never know who to believe, who to trust, whether to truat anyone at all, unless people give me really, really convincing arguments. Theirs were pretty good. So I won't say anything about what this could mean, or what it could produce. We all have imaginations, some of us a little more twisted than others, some more paranoid and scared, but we won't know until we get there. So prepare for the worst? We'll get there regardless.

There are kids outside my window playing in the snow. It's still snowing, and I put my face against teh screen between me and outside, and it smelled crisp like every other snow from every other year. Water does that, it's been everywhere. You can smell it, the places it's been. It's high enough now that you can't see the edge of the curb across the street. Our house is on a steep hill, on which people rarely drive, especially not in tthis weather. They're using it to sled on, being the only good hill close to their houses. They could use the park up the hill, but that's a pretty decent walk on the up on roads with cars and sharp turns and children who like to walk in the middle of the road instead of on the side. And parents who seem to prefer sitting inside. I'm forseeing disaster, though.

If there are four more years of this regime I quit the country. There can be no Pax Americana, as there is obviously no *Pax*.
