Happy December!
I have three papers to be working on now, and I've started two of them. Actually one is pretty bloody close to finished, I think I have a page left, defining how a particular brooch is or is not indicative of typical Barbarian artistic sensibilities. Oddly, it actually looks a little Byzantine. But ti's pretty, so I like it. 7th century English goldwork. I've already described it in fairly minute detail and defined its functions. This part bothers me because I don't actually know whether or not it's standard, or how. I really don't get the finest points of this. I can get most of the early movements down, but if someone showed me thsi brooch and asked me where it came from, I woulnd't have a clue. It's sort of generic old. Crossish pattern, gold, and garnets. And a little cloisonne for good measure. And it's due tomorrow.
I also have to write a paper on the exchange of influences from one culture to another in the ancient world based on examples from the Met. I have no idea.
Then there's the one on teh second half of my Lit 1 class, fo rwhich we read Nothing Interesting. Ok, so it was interesting, but only in that wanting to throw it across the room sort of way. Utopia was interesting, but deeply flawed. Everything else was either deeply, poundingly, oppressively Christian, or sonnets. Or both. So I'm going with the Faerie Queene, which on one level I enjoyed for a while, and then wanted to throw across the room, since strangling a centuries dead poet would do no good for either of us. So I'm comparing his Duessa character, the one that was the Whore of Babylon and the Catholic Church, and comparing her to the more favourably described Wife of Bath in Canturbury. The professor was amused by this.
I am not going to go into a description of Thanksgiving. From Friday on, it was great, but before that.... I'm thankful that I no longer live at home.
I really should be writing something useful, rather than just sitting here wasting time in LJ. But I really don't feel like it, and I can't think of anything to write. It's kinda pathetic.
