A note:
If you are ever insane enough to try to make your own shoes, get the right tools first. Do not try to make do with an exacto knofe and scissors. It is harder than hell to cut through leather thick enough to make soles from with just an exacto, and I'm relly thinking that the nail I have is not going to take the place of a properly sized awl. (I tried to get one. But the hardware store, while it has many thing I do not need, does not have the things that I do. The one awl they had was enoumous.) And when actually sewing the leather, so try to use a thimble. The needle will otherwise go backwards, into your finger. And that hurts.
On the upshot, the shoe is looking rather nice. So far. If it continues to do so, some of you may well see them in a couple weeks.
And the really stupid reason for this insanity? I wanted period shoes. And there's no one that makes any I like, and can afford. And I wanted to see if I can. That, in truth, is my main reason for doing anything. Painting, photography, sewing.... It's all in the name of experimentation. Purely scientific, I assure you.
