More School Shit
Nov. 14th, 2002 05:10 pmSo we had a short crit in photography today, 4 photos, including some for the final presentation. As it turns out, B&H, the photo place in the city, sent me the wrong paper. I wanted multigrade glossy, They sent fine art. Which tends to come out more grey than is generally good, for people who want to hand tint their prints. When I heard this, it sounded like a Really Good Idea. Most of the prints I want to do are looking like mid- to late-19th century style, as seems to be most of what I shoot, so the greyness goes well. So says the professor, anyway. So all is not lost, just different. i have to go to the art supply store and get some of the stuff you spray on prints so they take the paint well.
We have 5 more classes on the Tues-Thurs schedule before finals. And the final crit starts on the 5th for photography, and the 10th for 3d design. Suck. That's not nearly enough time. I brought home the teo birds I'm working on for 3d--a crow (who'd have guessed) and this kinda manitou-thingy. That was today's addition. But the grad student assistant said that in the other classes they were in awe of the structure I'd built for the birds. It's a broken house, two outside walls and part of the inside floor, with a fire escape. I love fire escapes. There's a girl made out of wire and metal mesh stuff, curled up and weeping in a corner, some tattered sheets/winding cloths drifting off the fire escape (more metal mesh, shaped to look like it's blowing), random trash blowing across the alley, and an iron bed thing. I like it. But looking at everyone else's stuff, I was wondering why mine sucked so much. So the compliment was nice.
I also have a paper to write. And lots of photos to shoot. And prints to make. So on Saturday, if anyone wants to find me I'll be in the lab, hiding.
