Today was the presentation of the van der Weyden dress, the 15 minute one that I was worried about not having enough words for. Turns out, I was wrong. I almost went over an acceptable amount of time, but there seemed to be people interested in it. I forgot the long white fabric that I was going to use to cover my head like a good girl, so no. I was a short-haired hussy. Heh. And oh, the running to get all the things I needed in order. And the failures to do so. And the looks I got, running around in, well, 15th century undress wear.

So yes, the whole thing went over quite well. I came in, wearing the dress, sans sleeves because it was warmer than it was supposed to be, and the professor said it looked just like the ones in the paintings, and that I did quite well. Two people went before me, which was fine, because I really was a little overwarm. But hey, fall and winter in this will be splendid. It actually reaches the floor all the way around, and a little more in the back. And it's comfortable! It really is! I'm so happy with it. So then with the speaking. I talked. And talked, and some of the slides were out of order, and one of them was the wrong slide, and I forgot to use a couple, because I had things to say, but it applied just as well to any of the other slides. And the printed pages were great. And people asked all sorts of questions, wanting to know did I make this, what did I make it from, and there was a nifty little side tangent about bogs and preservign clothing and the people in them. Very, very amusing. For me anyway. And then the professor saw the shoes, and made me walk up and down the aisles to show them off. A girl asked if I made them, and the looks on people's faces when I said yes was priceless. Absolutely priceless. But I had answers for all the questions they asked, from either the research for the class, or random knowledge from other sources. I had not anticipated this much interest. Not at all. But oh god, it felt good. I finally did something right this semester. After I was done, the professor said it was great, and lots of fun, that no one had ever done this sort of thing before. Well, I'm not surprised. It takes a special kind of masochist to make a dress for a class, where it's totally unrequired and only encouraged with a sort of "you know, you really don't have to do that...." kind of wonder.

And this is where I hope that the class doesn't have a curve on it. And so does the rest of the class.

And either Alan didn't cash the check for rent, or it bounced and they didn't tkae out any funds for him, but we still had money in the account, and this means food. I bought food. Lots of it. Ok, not that much, but enough. Plenty. No starving-skinny Remy, and no Cateskin trying to save enough fat to prepare for another famine. It's so pathetic. If I stop eating now, I gain weight. Without fail. So no, I'm not going to be trying the anorexic thing again. But we have money! Money! ANd then Remy got more from his father! More money! Wheeeeeeeee!

Well, if you want, I can send you the paper when I write it, and that will be pretty much the same. And I can tell you which paintings I used.

Mostly things from Rogier van der Weyden--the main one was the Depositiom, Mary Magdalene from the Brache family triptych (I probably spelled it wrong), Mary's handmaiden in the Columba altarpiece, Mary Magdalene in the Seven Sacraments, and threw them all together, and there were some supporting evidence paintings as well to show social context.
