Birds as of just past 9 this morning, by sound:

loudly northbound geese
starlings in hordes
crows
sparrows
an enthusiastic blue jay
a phoebe
a mourning dove.

Take note of the last two, and the first--robins follow soon after this, and spring not long after that.

What can I say, I grew up in the country. :) My grandmother when she was younger used to teach me all sorts of (pretty much useless) things like that.

Useless? Granted, I can't think of a practical reason for such a thing beyond living in the wild and surviving without civilization.....but it's still a nifty little talent to have.
