Our house is better than the Discovery channel. At least, if you've any interest in spiders at all. And I love them. There are...seven. Two of those are a mated pair. no, eight, there's another one. This is just the large, noticeable ones on the porch, not counting the weird looking one we saw in the vines the other day. I thought it was sucking on a horny slug until James pointed out that I was looking at its underside, and that oddly shaped object was in fact its abdomen. from the other side it was like a cross between a piece of bark and a miniature skull. There are the two in the side awning, one of which is about to lay her eggs, adn the enourmous one that connects the front awning with the shrub in front of it. She and her similarly large mate were engaged in something that I can only assume was a bizarre form of mating, seeing as both of them were alive after. leg fondliing, followed by little jabs by the male at her abdomen, and then she curled up and he wrapped himself around her adn they stayed like that for several minutes. Meanwhile, a third spider got into the web and poked at them a bit, and ran away. I don't know what it was doing there, as it was about an eighth the size of the female, she being the larger of the lot. A little while later (had to go inside for something) they had dislodged from each other, male was facing off against the smaller spider, and female was in the center of the web cleaning herself. Male was a bit sluggish as well. And then there are her disturbing dining/mummification processes. Amusing to watch, but I have no desire to be a moth. None. She moves *fast*. We also have the largest beetles I've seen in the wild, and a katydid. the katydid pleases me, as it has copper coloured eyes. It was eating our house, apparently, as well. And many pretty moths. But the spiders are the most impressive things here. We also have groundhogs, one with a scar on its ass. they waddle, and it's terribly funny to watch. But I have a terrible fear that one day they'll attack and go rabid or something. They look like they're plotting something. Belligerent psychotic things, I swear.

And Sarah and Dennis come tomorrow! I get to see them again! Hooray!
