So when leaving my art class early this morning, I noticed that someone had stenciled in white paint on the pebbled walls of the building "war is Terror", with a skull in the middle. I was pleased. We've had various other things scrawled on the grounds, mostly in chalk, protesting the war. Oddly, the Jewish population seemd to take it as an attack when they first showed up, according to the campus paper. Probably because one of Ariel Sharon's ministers came to speak at the campus that week. I don't know, I was confused. And in the tunnels that run between the buildings underground, someone had written anti war messages in black marker. (They've since been painted over)

And a thing. I know traditional warfare had its civilian casualties, but there's something to be said for meeting the opposing army in a field far away from the civilians, or as far as you can reasonably get, at a pre-arranged time, standing in lines, and slaughtering each other like gentlemen. Seeing all these photos of murdered civilinas, killed because we decided that it would be a good idea to blow up thir town and march through it instead of facing the army in the open.... Really makes the old ways seem that much better. And yes, I know people did blow up towns, murder, rape, loot, cause havok, be crude and ungentlemanly, whatever, but you know, that wasn't the main battle. They didn't look for random citizens to shoot, or whatever happened to be moving, they looked for the armies, dressed in bright colors so you couldn't mistake them.

This is true and not true... War was often conducted in or around towns... Siege warfare de facto involved large civilian populations, and starving them out so that you could kill them as they were fleeing the gate was common. The history of warfare isn't particularly pretty, but we're actually being very good about not hitting civilian centers, often to the detriment of our own troops. I don't particularly know how I feel about this particular war... There are good reasons for, and better reasons against, but my general feeling is that since we have committed our troops, it is incumbent on the government to avoid as many US casualties as possible. Hussein is not playing fair, and he's the one who is mostly putting civilians at risk. There are reports that he has troops stationed on top of "civilian" sites in Baghdad, firing anti-aircraft missiles at our troops. If someone is shooting at our soldier from the top of a hospital or elementary school, for Goddess's sake, blow it the fuck up. If there's an anti-aircraft missile coming at you from that area, it's a legitimate military target. If the civilians inside have an issue with that, the person to take it up with is Saddam. We didn't station soldiers in hospitals. He did.

I don't like the concept of people dieing over this, but I like the concept of our guys dieing slightly less than I like the concept of their guys dieing. I do, however, like the concept of someone dropping very large bombs all over the Iraqi leadership and the monsters in the Republican Guard. What they have done to people far outweighs anything that we could even conceive of doing in honest warfare.

much of the US state sponsored terrorism is carried out by the almost-entirely terrorist state of isreal. the 8 billion a year we give them goes to pushing the palestinians onto reservations and using gunships to fire rockets at taxis full of old ladies and shooting into groups of school children who walk down the wrong street. last year they were averaging a 3-1 ratio for killing palestinians...which is odd since the palestinians are supposed to be the BAD guys in all of this. so when it comes to sharon's people in town...yeah they know a thing about terrorism...they conduct it as a matter of state policy--not covert warfare. bulldozing the shops in the town of a suspected criminal or (this one gets me...) FILLING THE HOUSES OF ANY SUSPECTS AND THEIR FAMILIES FULL OF CONCRETE! or you could stick to the classics like combating stone throwing children with tanks...

bastards. this species has really gotten out of hand. whether pathetic or apathetic we all need to be gassed...give the place back to the monkeys they were doing a much better job...
