First day of classes. And this semester os goign to be the death of me. I have decided to make up for a class that I dropped, which means that I think I might only be behind by one credit. Except I took that extra 4 credit class my freshman year, so I may be completely caught up, as far as credit numbers compared to year goes. Yes. This will be good.

I've got the beginnings of an excellent shelf of medieval works, in social, political, cultural, costume, travel, and art history. I love my books.

And classes are interesting. England to 1485 (Bosworth Field, for those who care, which probably isn't all that many) is taught by a social-historian-flavoured Medievalist. So far, I'm enjoying the book I was set to, regardless of the fact that I probably won't finish the assignment. 83 pages is a lot for the first day of classes. She also teaches the class on women in the Middle Ages, which also looks tremendously interesting. 1485 focuses on promary sources, which are the most fun to use, Women focuses more on secondary sources, but still has four books by medieval women. Penguin classics are awesome as textbooks, especially compared to normal history or art books. Much cheaper, Pounds lighter, and they come in separate vloumes. So I don't have to carry them all to class at the same time. I'm also in an intermediate French class, which the prof says is probably below me. I doubt it. I havne't spoken French in almost two years, and when I did I placed into 202, but should have taken 201 and not skipped over things like subjunctives and reflexives. I dont' know what these are. I can also only pick up on about half the French I hear, and this is not as good as had been. The class is more to fill space and refresh my memory than anything else. I *want* to take it, and that's enough of a reason.

I dont' realy know if I'll be able to get into the Medieval women course. It's full, and there were a great many people in the room that hadn't enrolled. And then she passed out the syllabus. It's huge. And it's full of articles that have to be read. Lots of them. Over a page of them. In addition to the books. And I think only two of the four are being read in selections, possibly only one. People looked unpleased by this, so maybe. Maybe. I'm hoping.

I also saw the books for a class I've got tomorrow. Renaissance and Baroque art. I bought them, and unwrapped one. There were no used copies, and the new ones were 75 each. Both are hard-covered. One is on Burgundian art from the 15th-17th centuries, and one is a huge books called Vermeer Studies. To judge by the spine, there's a decent amount of colour in the pages. I'm on the wait list for this class, second in line. So I should get in. I hope. Of course there is no wait list for the women class.

If I can't get in, maybe I'll try to get into the grad level course in Middle English.
Probably not. That would take so much more time that I actually have.

And I really wnat to smoke.
