I am the Whore of Babylon. Dude! I'm Duessa! Heh. I actually kinda liked her, especially after writing that paper. Because that makes me the literary sister of the Wife of Bath, or something like that.... I don't know. I'm just being weird. I really should write the paper on the visigothic brooches, but I really son't feel like it yet. I probably won't even be able to until the night before it's due. Which is not to say I won't try, I just doubt that I'll get far. I have a couple sentences so far, and need to print out some photos. Gar.
For that matter, I need to get a roll of film processed. Just processed, not printed, I can do that myself eventually, I like toplay with the effects myself. I need a darkroom. If we had money and time and we were goign to stay here longer, I'd make ofer part of the basement, but we don't and we aren't. I went through some of my photos with Elizabeth last night as she had wanted to see some prints of Remy. She ended up taking home one of the duplicate mounted ones from my final project. It's the same print that Avery had really liked (I think he got a copy as well. I don't remember. Remy, in profile, head tilted back slightly against a a dark wall, and a small sliver of white down the right hand side of the page. A had liked the balance.) And earlier I had been looking through some of my old negs, and some of them are awesome though I never got a chance to develop them at al, having focused too much at that point on specific projects over the possible effects of night shots in Troy in the snow. I have one roll of B&W in my camera bag, exposed, but still in its little canister waiting for hideous chemicals. I hate that part, I'm willing to let someone else play with the film. I usually lose one shot, at least. I like the paper part. I like playing with the lights and trying to get something interesting to come out of it, trying to create something out of nothing, burn in shadows. I was pretty good, too. I like where I crop things, and I like the effects I get. I like that some of the negs look like they might be perfect. And at night even!
And I know what I miss about Troy this time of year. It's the iron. Troy is full of twisting, intricate shining (or rusting, on some buildings) black iron grillework. Everywhere. Just about every house is decorated, because iron was so important there. Burden Iron Works prodiced some brilliant stuff, and Troy shows everything from the middle of the 19th century onwards. Pretty much after the 60s I think, when the town burned.... In Kingston, there are lovely stone houses that look warm and cozy and inviting, but there is a dearth of iron. And when shooting things in the winter (my preferred season. Hey, I do B&W) it's *good* to have that contrast! The snow pulls out so many interesting details.
I need to shoot more. Especailly in the blasted out factory or meat packing facility or warehouse or whatever that is a few streets away.
( And more silly quizziness, because I'm really bored and really good at procrastination. )
