So I realize as I go back through the last few entries I made that I've been doing no posts aside from the ubiquitous quizzes. I guess it's been that sort of a week.... I have papers to write, one due on Monday after we spend the weekend in Albany, so I have to write it this week instead of doign the regular homework. Fortunately I do have an idea of what it will be about, and all sorts of notecards with quotes and stuff all over them. And two with biblio information. And a rough outlineish thingy that might or might not end up getting used, but serves the generic purpose of trying to organize my thoughts into something roughly coherent. That's a bit of a challenge, more than the writing or the research. All that involved was reading Beuwulf and Grendel. Both of which amused me, and the idea ofr the paper sort of grew as I first read Beowulf at the beginning of the semester. It's on people's need to create monsters, something to look down upon, something they can use to unite the disparate people they may rule, so they stop bickering amongst themselves (or looking too clasely at a government that rapes them) and exhaust themselves with fighting, and think they've accomplished something by slaying a dragon or a Grendel. There is more thought to it than that, but I'm only partly awake now, and mentally analyzing Shelley, Byron, Anglo Saxon poetry, anarchist theory, and early Medieval art, and trying to sort of carry on a conversation. And wondering what I was supposed to read for my next class. I really need to learn how to focus.
